DNA Damage Detection: Micronuclei

  • SoundBio Lab 1100 Northeast 47th Street #103 Seattle, WA, 98105 (map)

Bring along your toothbrush to gently collect your own cheek cells and assess baseline levels of DNA damage! You will prepare slides of your own cheek cells, count your cells under the microscope and observe their nuclei. If a big piece of chromosome has broken off in your cell, occasional micronuclei can be found. Some micronuclei are entirely normal, but too many might mean you should check a doctor!

For this workshop, we have partnered with Rachel Aronoff, an experienced molecular biologist and geneticist visiting us from Hackuarium, another DIY Bio lab located in Switzerland!

All SoundBio Lab members can still receive an additional 50% discount on ticketed events, and membership costs start as low as $10/month, so join today!

Purchase tickets here and become a member here. Fee waivers are available if the cost is prohibitive. You can apply for a fee waiver via this form. Questions? Email workshops@sound.bio.
