Why support SoundBio?

SoundBio Lab is Seattle’s only nonprofit community biology lab. At SoundBio, we believe biology isn’t just for professionals in lab coats. It’s for everyone.

From young students discovering the thrill of their first experiment to seasoned scientists pushing the boundaries of research, we provide a space where curiosity thrives and innovation flourishes.

  • The Problem: Over the next decade, Washington will face a shortfall of 600,000 skilled workers, according to WA Roundtable. Bioscience is one of those high-demand industries. Our education and training systems aren’t producing enough talent with the skills needed to sustain this growth.

The Solution: SoundBio provides historically excluded students with opportunities to jump-start their science education and gain hands-on experience. We show them that a science career is possible and equip them with the skills they need to demonstrate college readiness—bridging the achievement gap and building the workforce of the future.

  • The Problem: Hands-on science learning opportunities are rare but essential. According to the National Math + Science Initiative, real-world experiments teach people to adapt, innovate, and think critically—skills that are crucial for tackling today’s challenges. Yet, too many young people and adults lack access to these experiences, limiting their ability to build confidence and practical expertise in science.

The Solution: SoundBio provides hands-on lab experiences that develop vital skills like project design and collaborative problem-solving. Participants gain the adaptability and innovation needed for success in science and beyond. But it doesn’t stop there. These experiences spark curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving that ripple outward, strengthening our community. A science-literate community is an innovative community, one that drives discovery, inspires change, and builds a better future for all.

  • The Problem: Many professional scientists have innovative research ideas but no space or resources to pursue them. While their work is dedicated to advancing science, personal passion projects often remain unrealized due to limited access to independent research spaces. Without the right environment, groundbreaking ideas may never have the chance to flourish.

The Solution: As Seattle’s only nonprofit community biology lab, SoundBio provides a space where scientists of all levels, hobbyists, students, and professionals alike, can conduct research. For professionals, it’s a rare opportunity to bring passion projects to life, explore new ideas, and potentially deliver the next pivotal finding in biosciences. By making research accessible to all, SoundBio fuels scientific discovery and innovation in new and unexpected ways.
