May 12th - DIY Bio workshop: Does that anti-bacterial really work?

  • SoundBio Lab 1100 Northeast 47th Street #103 Seattle, WA, 98105 (map)

A hands-on workshop to test how well anti-bacterials work ... or not! Let's test your stuff on what does or does not work to kill microbes. In the last workshop we had some unexpected results, a chinese herbal medicine was found to be incredibly effective at killing yeasts (less so on some bacteria).

We will use a test that is used by clinicians and the FDA to test for the activity of antimicrobials called the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration). This will be an incredible learning experience where you and your family can learn how to use laboratory pipettes, how to perform dilutions, how to handle bacteria and finally put to rest your grandmothers recommendations on natural remedies!

This event is free, though a donation is always appreciated.
