Detailed descriptions

Be an educator - Run an already developed workshop, help develop new workshops, or help out as a workshops assistance. This is a great opportunity to spread an idea to your community and practice your science communication skills. Sign up to join our Volunteer List and then email us: workshops (at) sound.bio explaining your interest. Priority given to those with research and/or education experience.

Be a mentor - If you are a professionally trained research biologist or biochemist please offer to mentor a newbie researcher at SoundBio. Commit up to 3 hours a week, for up to 12 weeks, and you could make a world of difference to someone’s scientific journey. Just Sign up to join our Volunteer List, and mention that you’d like to be a mentor. Then we will reach out to you when we have new students apply to us.

Science Festival & Tabling Events - We do a lot of community outreach, so if you love working with children and the general public to share your love of DIY science, this is a fun and easy way to get involved! Events are held at K-8 schools, community centers, and other educational organizations. Sign up to join our Volunteer List.

Special Occasion Assistant - Sometimes one-time events pop up and we need extra support to make it happen. For example, we may attend a corporate event, help an existing organization, or attend a special gathering to give a science talk. This is a good opportunity if you have limited time to volunteer but want to help. Please Sign up to join our Volunteer List.

General Lab Assistant - We can always use help in the lab! As an active research space for the community, there is help needed in organizing items, itemization, cleaning, making basic reagents and more, depending on your skill set. This is a great way to help critically in the lab. Sign up to join our Volunteer List and then email lab (at) sound.bio with a short list of your lab skills, experience, and your time availability.

Scientific Fellow - Our lab is continually looking for ways to improve our operations and experiments, as well as upkeep of our samples. If you have experience in a molecular biology, microbiology, or similar, why not volunteer some time to improve our systems? Being a Scientific Fellow is a flexible and customized experience. Sign up to join our Volunteer List and then email lab (at) sound.bio with a short list of your lab skills and experience.

Business Operational Support - We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit in the state of WA and have many things to do in order to keep our business up and running. We need help with everything from social media support, marketing, fundraising, ordering supplies, and more. If you have a business expertise that you want to share, we'd love to talk. Email us at volunteer (at) sound.bio. We prefer any volunteer operational support to be a 6 months minimum commitment depending on the work involved.
