Position summary
The communications manager works to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our marketing and communications work so that we can reach more potential clients, volunteers and donors, and maintain good relationships.
They will lead the work of volunteer teams to:
Manage external communications and marketing.
Update and maintain our website.
Ensure that work across the organization aligns with our in house style / branding
Secure grant funding.
Compensation and benefits
$25 per hour.
40 hours per month with self-directed, flexible scheduling.
Can be completed largely remotely, but ability to attend events in and around the Seattle area, particularly at our U-district lab space is required.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and plan at regular team meetings and via email and Slack messages between meetings - 5 hrs per month
Development committee
Board of Directors
Supervise the work of Communications volunteers - 5 hrs per month
Newsletter writer
Social media content creator
Photographer and media manager
Other communications volunteer positions as relevant and as assigned by Board of Directors or Development committee.
Maintain style guidelines and related resources. Ensure that these are used in all public communications.
Update website as requested - 2 hrs per month.
Field inquiries via info@sound.bio or via Social media comments and direct messages - 8 hrs per month
Coordinate grant writing - Tracking and organizing grant writing work, as well as writing grants based on level of bandwidth and interest - 8 hrs per month
Work together with donor drive coordinator to ensure successful delivery of at least 2 major donor drives or fundraising events per year - 8 hrs per month
Assist with outreach to corporate partners e.g. attending networking events - 2 hrs per month
Supervision structure
Communications manager will be supervised by the Chair of the Development committee.
Communications manager will attend monthly Board meetings as a non-voting participant.
Board secretary will meet at least quarterly with the communications manager as a welfare check.

Social media content creator
Newsletter writer
Photographer and media manager.
